Isaac is now a healthy, energetic, and enthusiastic young boy, but this wasn’t always the case. Before starting school, he often went hungry. His parents earn less than $2 a day and couldn’t afford to provide enough food. As a result, Isaac suffered from hunger, frequent illness, and malnutrition. When he first joined La Ruche just over a year ago, he showed clear signs of malnutrition and needed treatment for severe anaemia caused by vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Since then, everything has changed. Isaac says the two things he loves most about school are “learning and lunches.” The daily meals of rice and beans, along with medical care, have given him the strength to walk to school and concentrate in class. A year ago, he never knew when he’d eat next, today, the promise of a nutritious meal each day is helping him build a brighter future.
